It is requirement for all competitors at SAC sanctioned contests
to be a member of the Aero Club of South Africa, SAC and to be in possession of a
current Aerobatic Rating. The initial rating is issued upon the successful
completion of the syllabus (See document above) and is issued by RAASA upon
presentation of the completed forms. This initial rating (Graduate P) is valid for 2 years,
during which time the competitor can validate it at either;
1. A panel of aerobatic
judges
2. SAC sanctioned
contest.
The first contest flight will be in the
Graduate class, and the competitor can proceed to compete in the Sportsman class
after attaining at least 70%.
The category for Aerobatic Ratings is
determined by the class flown most recently by the pilot. However, a rating will
revised to one class lower should a pilot not have competed in the preceeding 12
months. The category will be further revised down a class for every year of
non-competing. Eg. A pilot who held an Advanced rating will be reclassified to
an Intermediate rating if he/she did not compete in the preceeding 12 months.
The rating determines the category to be flown
at a contest. However, a pilot is permitted to compete in one class higher than
the issued rating in order to facilitate transition to a higher class.
